1. Do you do all your own printing? You will
deal with a person that does all his or her work at their location
or will be a 'broker' that actually has another printer do the work
for them. I feel it's better to work with someone who does at least
some of the work themselves.
2. What is your policy if you mess up my order?
You want someone who will answer this question with "Customer
satisfaction is primary". If a company isn't willing to
stand behind their work 100%, than keep looking.
3. What if I want more shirts printed, do you charge
any setup fees? Some printers will charge you a setup fee to
reprint an order or charge you more per shirt if you order less
the next time. The best printers will charge you the same price
for a period of time after your last order.
4. Who owns the Artwork? Film Positives? Screens?
Get the following in writing - "The customer owns the artwork
and film positives if they have paid for them, the screens remain
the property of the printer but won't be used for anyone else."
This will save a lot of hassle if you ever decide to move to another
printer later.
5. What is your turnaround? A good turnaround
is 5 to 10 working days. Most printer will charge a RUSH CHARGE
if you want it sooner. A good printer will charge a flat charge
or flat percent like 10% for rush, Watch out for printers who charge
a sliding percentage based on the amount of time like 10% for 5
days, 20% for 4 days, 30% for 3 days etc.
6. Do you have a list of customers I can call?
Let the printer give you references and check them out.
7. How is your price compared to other printers?
Don't always go with the lowest price. Some printers charge a little
more but are worth it. (My pet peeve is "I'll match any price")
Doesn't this guy know how to charge for ! his work.
8. Why should I use you instead of another printer?
Look for a printer that will guarantee customer satisfaction.
9. What if you miss my deadline? You want someone
who will be honest with you and not make excuses. Most printers
will do everything within there power to make sure you get your
shirts on time even if they have to work late or deliver them to
you.
